Treefrog Ukuleles are made in my small workshop in St Augustine Florida, the oldest city in the nation. I am helped in my shop by my assistant, Lani, a free-spirited Cardigan Corgi. She’s keeps me in line and on schedule.
In a past life I worked as an Industrial Designer, primarily in the healthcare industry. I studied Industrial Design at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and have designed products ranging from baby monitors to diesel/electric locomotives.
A few years back I discovered the ukulele and became enamored with this marvelous little instrument. In the world of lutherie I am a mere novice but I continue to hone my skills with each instrument I build. For me the ukulele is wonderful example of functional art. A little fine craftmanship, a little engineering, mixed with a splash of artistry, yielding a work of art that sings!
“An optimum sound quality is key but my goal is to build ukuleles that delight all the senses. Along with beautiful tone that makes your ears smile, a custom ukulele should feel right, properly designed, finished and setup. And it should be a visual treat as well. Choice woods and unique inlays combine to create one-of-a-kind instruments that engage the player as well as your audience.”
